Castiglioni (1932 - 1996) with the Metier Label. This has been a long-term
project and is an exceptionally produced disc, with premiere recordings of many
of the pieces and programme notes from Michael Finissy. The event will comprise
a composer portrait of Castiglioni followed by a drinks reception hosted by the
Institute. Sarah has invited two colleagues to join her in presenting some of
Castiglioni's intimate chamber music - soprano Sarah Leonard, highly established
and internationally renowned as a contemporary music specialist, and flautist
Richard Craig - an emerging Scottish talent currently studying in Strasbourg.

This two-part performance features music from two
of our recent Artist Development projects. September
2004's New Music/New Media' course, led by
David Horne and Sound Intermedia, brought together
young composers and performers with members of the
London Sinfonietta and video artists Flat-e. Together
they explored electronic composition techniques,
improvisation and use of visuals, creating electroacoustic
works accompanied by compelling digital video.
An Aldeburgh Residency in early 2005 brought
together Suffolk-resident Warp Records DJ Mira Calix
with pianist Sarah Nicolls and sound designer
David Sheppard. Their collaborative work is a
fascinating union of contemporary piano techniques,
sampled sounds and live-electronic manipulation.
